The Would-Be Math Wizards

The would-be Mathwizards

Forty volunteered pupils, representing grades one to six of the school had successfully completed the six Saturdays Mathematics Program for regular pupils and for talented ones.

As per DepEd Advisory No. 275, s. 2014, dated July 1, 2014, this program is designed to provide the pupils the opportunity to explore Mathematics without the threat of tests, to review the materials covered last school year, and to prepare the Grade 6 pupils for entrance examinations for the first year high school.

MTAP pupils receiving certificate of participation
This program is handled by the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP).

The tutors were the best Math teachers in the Division of La Carlota City. They were randomly selected by Mam Ruth Convite, the Math education program supervisor.

Our school Math teacher, Mr. Raffy Medes who was also a volunteer MTAP tutor supervised the pupils from the first Saturday until the last.

Upon receiving their certificate of participation, these pupils were so glad and confident that they could tackle any practical math.

The school is also very happy and is so hopeful that the pupils when they do practice what they've learned in their tutorial session, for sure, they may proudly say for themselves that they could be a would-be Math wizards in the near future.

So be it!

  1. I used to be a member of our math org in high school and also competed against students from other schools in MTAP. I'm sure parents of those kids are proud. :)

  2. It's so nice to hear that. When I was in my elementary, arithmetic was the subject I really hate. But when I reached high school it became my favorite.

  3. I also enjoy Math while I was a student, which was the reason I took up accountancy and became a CPA. This would be a really good way to sharpen their math skills. Once you have a solid base in math, it gets easier.
